In her book Fashioning Memory, Heike Jenss illuminates the push and pull dynamic with the fast pace of the fashion paradigm and the contrasting slow pace in which we accumulate our wardrobes. Though on the surface fashion operates with seasonal change and weekly new arrivals, the content of our wardrobes is usually filled slowly, with garments from a variety of times. The temporality of fashion — she argues — is not absolute or universal as its narrative otherwise suggests. Instead, to experience fashion is to experience multiple temporalities that coexist and interplay continuously.Though fashion urges forgetting to drive desire towards novelty, it is only through the old we can understand what’s new. In that sense, fashion cannot function without memory and nostalgia.

Through this lens, the surge of resale can be seen as a desire to recall the past, particularly garments that are situated far enough to be washed from its cultural connotations of the time, essentially rendering them blank and ready to be re-experienced in a new context. It proves that fashion isn’t as linear as it tends to proclaim, and that the old can be just as new so long as it’s far enough in our collective memories.

This phenomenon can be observed everywhere on the resale market and contemporary fashion culture at large, where “old enough” collections and items are re-visited and re-appropriated in the current zeitgeist. Poignant examples are the Margiela Tabis, Gaultier tattoo shirts, and Balenciaga city bags, to name a few. These are items that had been wiped from our short-term memories, allowing them to move from “outmoded” to “ripe to be old”, and thereby often becoming even more desirable than when they were first introduced.

Being an Ann Demeulemeester fan in 2025 isn’t easy; none of the designers that followed ever truly managed to build on Ann’s success. But is this the result of a lack of talent and coordination, or is it more complicated?

Ann Demeulemeester has a unique design language with motifs and moods that are instantly recognizable — it’s an aesthetic that once captured many hearts in the late 90s and early 2000s, especially among goths.

Fast forward to today, and the brand is facing a challenge: how can it remain true to the past while simultaneously catering to newer demographics?

If Antonoli’s Ann Demeulemeester last collection is anything to go by, it’s next to impossible. Featuring an awkward combination of rehashes and garments arguably more native to the likes of Balenciaga or ERD, it’s safe to say that the label has fallen into a sort of identity crisis — stuck between the old and the new.

This case also illustrates how fashion operates on a more general level: luxury brands are inherently nostalgic; they draw their value from their own heritage, but are simultaneously forced to cater to demographics that never lived those times. This makes the creative process a process of recontextualizing the past so that it fits the present. But this doesn’t always work. And in the case of Ann Demeulemeester, it alienates their core fan base.

Luckily, there’s still plenty of original Ann Demeulemeester to enjoy for us nostalgics on the second-hand market. Are you a fan of the designer or need help in finding specific garments? Feel free to join our Discord. Link in Bio.

The ASKET Archive
Brand: ASKET
Subject Line: The ASKET Archive
Preview Line: Explore garments from the past
We pride ourselves in our rigorous focus on detail and the never ending search for garment improvements. This philosophy however, has one downside: it sometimes forces us to let go of garments turned outdated or to pass on those that don’t live up to our quality standards. This is why we created the ASKET Archive. Not just to prevent waste, but especially to give everything we create the wear they deserve. The garments found here might be a little different, but they still reach an exceptionally high quality. So here’s your chance to give them a second life.

The garments found in The Archive are priced 20-30% lower than those in our Permanent Collection. The exact reduction depends on whether the garment belongs to the expired or second grade category.

An Interview with Cristian Lind
Brand: ASKET
Subject Line: A conversation with Cristian Lind
Preview Line: The founder of Temporärt, Contem and Ekenmarknad

Where does the world of clothing and of furniture intersect? To mark these points has been one of our goals with this conversation. Turns out, there are more than one may at first expect.

For this one, we allowed ourselves to pick the brain of someone immersed in the world of used furniture since his early years. Starting out as a young frequent at the local flea markets and eventually honing his eye sharp enough to identify his own niche, which now only seems to be growing. Cristian is the founder of Temporärt and Contem. Two projects that a few sentences won't do justice. They both embody a revival of things forgotten: slowness, artisanship, and longevity.

The Essential T-Shirt
Brand: ASKET
Subject Line: The Essential T-Shirt
Preview Line: Testing its sartorial limits

When speaking of essentials, the T-Shirt is one of the first to come to mind. Well, our minds at least. It holds a special place in our hearts; it’s the first garment we ever released, making it more of a quintessential rather than an essential. Our iteration is meant to be an amalgamation of all the better elements of the T-Shirts we had tried before, while omitting the excess. And we arrived at something truly wearable everyday, ready to be pulled on and pulled off with equal effortlessness, no matter the person or occasion and to do so for years.

A Guide to Coats (intro)
Brand: ASKET

Acquiring a Coat that satisfies all needs, goes well with all the garments in your wardrobe, fits well and also lasts for a long time is an endeavor that cannot be underestimated. Many fall victim to the sheer overwhelm of choice that exists, eventually settling for a compromise, or not finding anything at all after having spent countless days scrolling the internet. The coat, after all, makes up the backbone of your wardrobe — a true pièce de resistance that’ll ultimately dictate its aesthetic direction. Once the coat is acquired, many of your future garments may have to bend to its parameters. “Yes these pants are nice, but does it go well with my Coat?” are but few of the questions you’ll likely see yourself asking once the coat has claimed its space. But this dilemma can either largely or completely be avoided, be it by subscribing to the philosophy of the Capsule Wardrobe or by investing in a coat that has been specifically designed to combine with anything, all the while retaining functionality and the invaluable quality of timelessness.

In essence, our coats exist to put an end to your search for a coat.

A Guide to T-Shirts
Brand: ASKET

Our T-Shirt selection remains modest in its variety, but every garment has been created to fulfill a unique yet versatile role in your wardrobe. Keeping it small is by design; it enables a meticulous focus on quality and fit, and it gives you the space and time necessary to build a timeless wardrobe, mindfully. With that said, we are aware it can be a challenge to decide between them. So here’s a brief guide.

The T-Shirt
Embodying both our inception and the quintessential first layer of any outfit, no matter the aesthetic aspiration, this is meant to be the T-Shirt in its purest and most perfected form. Made from 100% organic cotton and a mid-weight fabric of 160g/sqm, it’s consciously constructed to serve the wearer in the widest possible range of outfits, occasions and climates, and endure doing so for many wears and years to come. In other words, if you are torn between our tops, this is a great place to start.

The Lyocell T-Shirt
Barring silk, nothing really compares to regenerated cellulose fibers such as Lyocell, bringing a unique combination of comfort, drape, luster, high breathability and ease of care. The fabric is made of 100% Tencel and comes in at a mid-weight 185g/sqm, making neither too thin nor too thick. The contest between this and cotton primarily comes down to preference, but if you are looking for a versatile every-day alternative with a slightly more elevated and sophisticated look, this might be your one.

The Tank Top
The next legitimate addition to a capsule wardrobe is a Tank Top, specifically one constructed to last for years and retain its shape no matter what. The longevity, smoothness and lasting comfort of this garment is owed to the fabric, which is a densely knitted 1x1 rib, weighs 200g/sqm and is made of 100% organic cotton. Like a T-Shirt, this garment can take you throughout the whole year, able to serve either as a first layer under a cozy knit or a shirt, or simply worn on its own.

The Long-Sleeve T-Shirt
We made this garment for those periods and occasions when short sleeves are too optimistic and thicker fabrics of sweatshirts too much an exaggeration. It effortlessly bridges the gap between two undisputed staples and paves its own unique way for those drawn to the light softness of our T-Shirt but want it to extend all the way to the hand. It’s made of the same fabric as our T-Shirt and is an excellent contender to become your undisputed go-to, no matter the season.
